YSD support his team by pledging RM800,000 from January 2016 to December 2016.
Renowned sailor Jeremy Koo hit his stride ever since he received support from Yayasan Sime Darby (YSD).

In January 2014 to May 2015, Koo received an initial sum of RM490,000 to compete in 16 local and international competitions.

Since then, the Sime Darby Foundation-Koo Racing Team (SDF-KRT) have notched a string of impressive results.

Koo has improved his world ranking from 82 in October 2013 to 14 as at 29 September 2016.

With marked improvements to show his progress, YSD decided to continue supporting Koo and his team, pledging RM800,000 from January 2016 to December 2016.

YSD’s support covers sponsorship of the team’s accommodation, meals, transportation, allowances, branding and uniforms.

The Foundation’s support of the SDF-KRT hinges on its mission to fund sports-related training programmes or competitions which will serve as springboards for individuals and teams to accomplish their goals and realise their potential.

It is also the first time a corporation foundation is supporting a national team in the Match Racing events.

YSD’s move complements governmental efforts to hone talent in the sailing sport.

The existing support that the Malaysian government is offering for the development of sailing sports in Malaysia is for the Optimist, Laser, International 420 and International 470 sailing events – which is different to Koo’s specialisation in the Match Racing events.

Match Racing pits one boat against another around a short two-lap windward/leeward course.

YSD’s move to support sailing is yet another affirmation of the Foundation’s efforts to support unconventional sports in an effort to develop Malaysian talent.

Koo’s current 14th spot in the ranks is his best-ever so far; YSD is excited to see the skipper advance further in the years to come.
