Yayasan Sime Darby champions arts education through Kakiseni Junior and ‘Seni Making A Difference’
KUALA LUMPUR, 28TH FEBRUARY 2022 - Persatuan Kakiseni hosted the launch ceremony of Kakiseni Junior’s website, with a website walkthrough and class testing, attended by representatives from Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, Ministry of Education Malaysia, Akademi Seni Budaya dan Kebangsaan, programme partners and community leaders at Pusat Kreatif Kanak-Kanak Tuanku Bainun today.
In addition, Nawfal Zamri (Theatre Director & Coach), Afi Sulaiman (Digital Art Creator) and teachers from Pusat Kreatif Kanak-Kanak Tuanku Bainun conducted tester classes to give attendees bite-size versions of the experiences offered on Kakiseni Junior after the launch ceremony.
Since the website went live with a soft launch in June last year, the team has been working with more than 100 arts practitioners who have registered as service providers under Kakiseni Junior to conduct their creative classes, as well as running and improving features on the website.
Kakiseni Junior is an online platform that allows parents and teachers to find creative classes to rediscover their children’s and young people's interest in the arts. Funded by Yayasan Sime Darby under their Arts & Culture pillar, Kakiseni Junior supports art practitioners, to offer a platform for them to promote their classes, set their own class pricings and to allow teachers to conduct lessons in a safe environment.
“With the launch of phase two for Kakiseni Junior in November 2021, users are able to book courses - which are programmes with more than one session, or book a mix of programmes at one price with bundles. We are definitely positive that both creative educators and parents would progress to slowly be open and feel more comfortable with physical classes as long as strict SOPs are in place. In the meantime, Kakiseni is really excited and focused on running the Seni Making A Difference (SeniMAD) programme this year.” said Low Ngai Yuen, President of Kakiseni.
Children who enrol in these classes under Kakiseni Junior will be able to master and take up exciting classes that they are interested in. There are 4 categories of classes under Kakiseni Junior such as:
● Performing Arts
● Traditional Arts
● Visual Arts
● Life Skills/Motivational
Group Managing Director of Sime Darby Property Berhad and Representative of Yayasan Sime Darby, Dato’ Azmir Merican said that “The illustrious Malaysian arts scene was greatly affected by the pandemic and Yayasan Sime Darby’s contribution is timely to revive our creative arts industry. We must work together to sustain the invaluable arts scene and to ensure that our young talents are enabled with a platform to explore and thrive. Congratulations to Kakiseni Junior as we look forward to welcoming more young talents and arts practitioners to the scene.”
Yayasan Sime Darby has also paid forward four editions of SeniMAD programme to benefit 160 children in selected low-cost housing areas and community centres like PPR Seri Semarak, PPR Idaman Damansara Damai, PPR Fasa 8/9 Sentul, Buku Jalanan Yayasan Chow Kit starting March this year. It is open to 40 children from each community.
Kakiseni and Yayasan Sime Darby believe that early creative childhood education plays a huge role in our youth's development which is why a fixed amount of RM5.00 processing fee is applicable to the user for every transaction on Kakiseni Junior to support the SeniMAD outreach programme.
Through SeniMAD, Kakiseni Junior hopes to become a platform for children to develop holistically.
