Under its Sports pillar, Yayasan Sime Darby had previously supported the Sime Darby Foundation Track Cycling Team (SDFTCT) enroute to 2 Olympics. In the “Road to London 2012” programme, YSD committed RM2 million from January 2010 to June 2012. The funding mainly supported 7 national track cyclists to qualify for the London Olympics, and 3 of them succeeded.
In the “Road to Rio 2016” programme, YSD committed RM2.85 million from February 2013 to August 2016. The funding supported 2 national cyclists i.e. Mohd Azizulhasni Awang and Fatehah Mustapa to qualify for the Rio Olympics. The funding support for Azizulhasni in the 2 previous Olympics has made it possible for him to be placed 6th in London 2012’s Keirin finals and made history by securing Malaysia’s first Olympic medal in track cycling after bagging the bronze in Rio 2016.
For “Road To Tokyo 2020”, YSD committed a total of RM2.6 million from February 2017 to December 2020. SDFTCT had launched a documentary titled “Split Seconds that Count” to showcase the cyclists' journey towards the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The documentary brings viewers into a day in the life of our cyclists Muhammad Shah Firdaus, Muhammad Fadhil, Anis Rosidi as well as their Coach John Beasley.
